Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a website cost in Portugal? FAQ.
Everything you need to know about our services, prices, process, and support.
General
What kind of businesses do you work with?
We specialise in building for small and medium businesses in Portugal — restaurants, gyms, barbershops, hairdressers, local stores, yoga studios, clinics, lawyers, and other professional services. We also take on startup projects and teams that need mobile applications.
Do you only work with clients in Portugal?
Our focus is the Portuguese market, but we work 100% remotely, so we can collaborate with clients anywhere in the world. We speak Portuguese, English, and some Spanish.
What's the difference between BeiraByte and a large agency?
Lean operation — so you talk directly with whoever is building your site. No salespeople, no PMs, no bureaucracy. That means lower prices, faster replies, and more direct decisions.
Pricing
Are prices really fixed? No hidden costs?
Yes. The prices you see are the prices you pay. After the initial consultation, we send a written proposal with a fixed price covering everything that's been agreed. Only changes outside the original scope are billed separately, and always with prior approval.
How does payment work?
We split it into two parts: 50% on proposal approval (to start) and 50% on final delivery (when you're satisfied). We accept bank transfer. We issue a receipt/invoice automatically.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes — for projects from €1,000 we can split payment into up to 3 interest-free instalments (40% start + 30% midway + 30% delivery). For larger projects we discuss case by case. We always require the initial deposit to begin — that's what reserves the team for your project.
Are domain and hosting included?
They're not included in the base package price. We have an optional hosting plan from €10/month on a fast server in Portugal (SSL included, daily backups). We help register the domain if you don't have one yet — typical .pt costs around €15/year.
Do you offer discounts?
Our prices are already at the fairest level possible for small businesses. We offer 10% off annual hosting + maintenance plans, and we give priority to associations and NGOs.
Landing Page
What's the difference between Landing Page and the Starter package?
Landing Page is a single page focused on a conversion (capturing leads, selling a product, promoting an event). Starter is a corporate site of up to 5 pages that presents your whole business (about, services, portfolio, contact). If your goal is "explain who I am", you need a Starter. If it's "validate an idea or capture sign-ups", a Landing Page is more effective and costs half as much.
How quickly is it ready?
Typically a few business days from when we receive the brief and the texts/images. Process: brief → first draft → revisions → delivery. If you need it faster (e.g. an imminent event), we can speed things up with a €50 rush fee.
Can I edit the page later without help?
Yes. We deliver with WordPress + a visual editor and a 15-minute video training. You can change texts, images, and the title at any time. If you'd rather not touch anything, we can handle changes for €40 each (text/image) or €80/hour for larger updates.
How does the upgrade credit work?
If, within the first 90 days, you decide to move to a larger package, the amount you paid for the Landing Page (€249) is fully credited. Example: pay for the Landing Page today (€249), and 2 months later you want a Starter — you only pay €251 (€500 − €249). Everything we built in the landing page is reused on the new site.
Does the Landing Page work with Google Ads and Meta Ads?
Yes — that's exactly what it's optimised for. We set up the Meta Pixel and Google Tag to track conversions, optimise loading speed (cheaper in the ad auction), and design the layout for paid traffic (above the fold matters most). We don't manage the ads ourselves, but the page is ready for any agency or freelancer to use.
What if I need several different landing pages?
From the second landing page (same brand, same design system) the price drops to €149/each. Useful for those running parallel campaigns (one per product, persona, or city). After 3 landing pages, a Starter or Business package makes more sense.
Process
How long does website delivery take?
On average, 2–3 weeks from brief to launch. Landing Pages are typically ready in just a few business days. E-commerce packages can take up to 4 weeks because they involve payment integration and additional testing. Mobile apps range from 8 to 16 weeks.
Do I need to have content ready?
We help organise your texts and photos. If you don't have content, we suggest ideas, create a base structure, and can recommend a partner copywriter or photographer in your region.
How many revisions can I request?
Revisions within the original scope are unlimited until you're satisfied. We only charge when changes alter the agreed scope — and even then we discuss before charging anything.
How do we communicate during the project?
We stay in direct contact via WhatsApp, email, or video call — whichever you prefer. You also get a real-time preview link to follow progress.
Technical
What platform do you build sites on?
We use WordPress for most projects (with Elementor or Gutenberg), and WooCommerce for e-commerce. For apps we use native technologies (Swift/Kotlin) or React Native depending on the project.
Can I edit the site myself afterwards?
Of course. We deliver a personalised video training (15–30 min) so you can update texts, photos, prices, and add new pages without depending on anyone.
Are sites optimised for SEO?
Yes. All sites include technical SEO (speed, mobile-friendly, sitemap, URL structure, meta tags). The Business package includes RankMath SEO configured and on-page optimisation. For active campaigns (Google Ads, Meta Ads), we recommend a specialised agency — the site is prepared for any agency that wants to use it.
Are sites fast on mobile?
We optimise for a 90+ Google PageSpeed target on mobile, with image compression (WebP), caching, and specific performance techniques. Our sites typically load in 2–3 seconds under normal conditions. Final score may vary depending on content, hosting, and third-party integrations.
What if I already have a site? Do you update it or build new?
It depends on the state of the site. If it was built recently in WordPress and the code is clean, we can redesign or update specific pages (from €250). If it's very old, built on Wix/Squarespace, or has structural issues, building from scratch is usually cheaper and faster than patching. We always do a free assessment first and tell you honestly which path is best — without pushing you to the more expensive option.
Who owns the code at the end of the project?
You do. After full payment, the code produced specifically for your project, the texts written by BeiraByte for your project, and the original design files all become entirely your property — you can move them to another supplier at any time without restriction. Third-party components (WordPress, open-source plugins, fonts, icons) keep their own licences, but that's separate from what we produce. We hold nothing back.
Are sites GDPR-compliant?
Yes. All sites include a configurable cookie banner, privacy policy in PT and EN, forms with explicit consent, and data storage on EU servers.
App Development
How much does it cost to build a mobile app?
It varies a lot depending on features. Simple apps (e.g. a loyalty app) start at €5,000. Apps with backend, payments, and multiple user profiles can run from €15,000 to €30,000+. After the free consultation we send a detailed quote.
Do you build for iOS and Android?
Yes, both platforms. We use native technologies (Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android) or React Native when it makes economic sense to maintain a single codebase.
Do you handle store publishing?
Yes. We handle publishing on the App Store and Google Play Store, including texts, screenshots, and categorisation. The annual developer account fees (Apple €99/year, Google $25 one-off) are paid by the client in their own name.
AI Automation
What exactly is AI Automation?
Instead of you (or someone on your team) manually answering repetitive enquiries, booking reservations, sorting emails, or copying data from one place to another, we set up AI agents that handle those tasks automatically. They run 24/7, speak natural Portuguese, and connect to the tools you already use (WhatsApp, Gmail, Sheets, Notion, Calendar, CRM).
Will I lose control of my business?
No. You still decide what the agent does and what it does NOT do. When the agent is unsure or a customer asks something out of scope, it automatically escalates to you via WhatsApp or email. You have access to a panel where you see every conversation and can adjust responses at any time.
Is it GDPR-compliant?
Yes. We use European providers when possible (Mistral, Azure OpenAI EU region), and on integrations with OpenAI/Anthropic we configure no-training and zero-retention options. Conversation data is stored on EU servers. We always add the privacy notice on the chatbot, and customers can request their data or its deletion just like any other processing.
How long does it take to implement?
A simple chatbot trained on your FAQ and catalogue is ready in 1–2 weeks. More complex workflows (agents handling bookings, classifying emails, or generating proposals) take 2–4 weeks depending on the number of integrations. It always includes a tuning session after 2 weeks in production.
Are there monthly costs beyond the project itself?
Yes — but small and transparent. AI models charge per usage (typical: €5 to €40/month for a chatbot with normal SME traffic). Workflow tools (n8n self-hosted or Make/Zapier) range from €0 (open-source on our hosting) to €20/month. We always present a realistic estimate before we start — no surprises.
Support
Is support included?
Yes. All packages include post-launch support: 30 days for Starter and Business, 60 days for E-commerce, 90 days for App Development. After that period, you can subscribe to a monthly maintenance plan from €30/month.
What does the maintenance plan include?
Automatic WordPress, plugin, and theme updates; small content changes (up to 1h/month); uptime monitoring; daily backups; priority WhatsApp support; and bug fixes.
What if something goes wrong after launch?
During the included support period, we fix any bug we caused at no additional cost. After that period, with or without a maintenance plan, we always reply — clients with a plan get priority.
